Message: i have a bone stock 97 sport that i would like to start playing with a little bit. my thoughts were thus:
modify the stock throttle body by swapping on a tb off a 318, milling off the air horn and radiusing the upper parts of the throttle bores
use either the stock airbox with the part that attaches to the fender removed and a piece of tubing rputed to the radiator support in its place, an offset 14 inch open element air cleaner off one of the race cars, or one of the dakota specific, generic brand "intake kits" off e-bay
Relocate the IAT to the air intake tubing
modify the CPS for a little more timing
Dynomax cat back ulta-flo system
mallory hyfire ignition box
what do you guys think of these mods for a starting point? is there anything im missing, or better products to use? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. also leads on used headers would be good. i cant justify the 400+ for a new set.
also, will any of these mods negatively impact my gas milage or low range torque?
thanks for all the help. im new to modifying late model stuff, except corvettes and f-bodys, which my shop does a lot of. not enough "real" hot rods in my opinion......

Message: I also have a 97 DAK. You will see a big difference between the stock V6 and V8 TB with out doing any modifications to the V8 TB. Just make your self a new bolt to hold down the Airhat; called an S bolt. The best performance mods that I have done so far have been the V8 TB, modified Intake manifold, and 1:7 Crower Roller Rockers. The new airintake with 9 inch K&N filter was also good. That took care of getting air into the engine. then I did the flowmaster and headers to free up the exhaust. Neat things to do but do not really do much by themselves are Electric fan, Underdrive Pulleys, MSD 6a and supercoil. the main thing that will kill your gas milage is going to a 180 degree TSTAT. You will gain power but drop as much as 2 to 3 MPG. Hope this is helpfull

Message: You don't loose gas mileage from changing to a 180 Thermo. Think about it if your engine is running at a colder temperture how can that cause worse gas mileage. Oh and your not supposed to use a 180 thermo its better to use a 160 thermo at least thats what I used.

Message: 1. A 160 tstat constantly puts your car in warp up mode overworking your cooling system. And is pretty much horrible for the 6s.
2. the 180 has been proven to lower gas mileage do a search and you can find out the exact reason, i cant remember why.
