Message: why are you seeking a different type of tranny other than what came as stock? Is there something specific you are trying to find?

Message: Well my intention was to put a 904 or something on that order in it (if it would fit) because all the local shops around here have toled me that it would cost from $1,000 to $1,200 to rebuild my tranny because of the overdrive. I just thought if would be cheaper to put something else in it.

Message: Rebuilding a 904 or 727 would be cheaper but keep in mind you'll be loosing the OD and thats what makes our Daks cruise so nice on the highways.
You will also notice that your Dak will feel a little slower off the line with a 904 or 727 because first is higher because they dont have OD.
Now if around town and racing is all you care about then a nicly built 904 is the way to go as a 904 is quite a bit lighter than a A500 OD and it has less recipricating mass.
Good luck, Scott
Oh, and yes a 904 or 727 (for small blocks) will bolt right up, make sure to get the right converter though.

Message: An A-500 is in essence an A-904 with an over drive and an A-518 is an A-727 with an over drive. The bolt patterns are the same; just remember there are differences in the ratios and torque converters (lockup vs. non-lockup)
