If you have your defroster on, it is designed to run the A/C compressor. Turn the climate controls to Heat instead of Defrost.

If the compressor still comes on, you are lacking a diode to block the power feed back from the fan relay to the A/C compressor.

Hi Bob

(first thanks for the reply)

ok plugged it back in and had the setting to heat (floor)
and before long it started again
the cluthes on the compressor kick in and run for 15-20 seconds and just keeps cycleing through the process.

possibly a relay switch or something?
though past experiance is when they go bad they quit all together.

i'm stummped and
all the help is greatly appreciated

OK, sounds like you're missing a diode in this new setup. In newer cars with dual electric fans, the A/C and one of the cooling fans are set to run together, so that when the A/C is on, a fan maximizes cooling of the condenser for better efficiency. The other fan only switches on when the coolant gets to a certain temperature.

For older vehicles, or those with single electric fans, there is a diode in the wiring to prevent the A/C from coming on when the fan comes on, and vice versa. It sounds like you're missing that diode. I don't have a diagram to show you where to place it, but maybe someone here can post one or describe it better.
