Subject: Truck won't stay running after it starts IP: Logged
Message: Sometimes when I go out to leave, I start up my truck and it just quits. Its not the battery, becasue my CD player still stays running. But the weird part is, is it will start up and work fine for like two days, then it won't stay running, and i have to keep starting it as i stop. (noting, this is a 1998 Sport 5 speed) Thanks alot anyone who helps!

Message: It could still be the batery, PCM is likely much more sensitive to low voltage than your CD player. Could also be TB needs to come off for a good cleaning; or might need a tune up.

Message: A scan would be the best way to check out all the
sensors.
Try cleaning the IAC idle air control back of
throttle body #20 or #25 torx bit
Spray with carb cleaner and be sure to check the
seat in the body for dirt and carbon buildup

Message: sean98dak,
You might to spend 20.00 dollars on a chilton or Haynes manual for your year of truck. It will give you the information you need remove and replace. Also you can use the search function
on this board.

Message: Had the same problem with my '98 Dakota. Found that a squirrell had made the top of the engine his home. And when he got a little hungry he helped himself to the rubber caps on the side of the intake manifold. Replaced the caps and haven't had any more problem with running.

Message: I had a similar problem with my 1996 Magnum 3.9 V6. Turned out to be the IAC valve..I cleaned it and the port, but the valve itself was no good. It costs under $40 from O'Reilly's and the one I got there is a Borg-Warner made unit. Unfortunately, I don't really think there's a way to check that valve..but if you got $40 lyin around and want to try it, it certainly won't hurt.
