Subject: Stalling While In PARK

I have a 98 V6 3.9 Auto 2WD 40K Miles

I have read some of the other posts about stalling after shifting into Park and don't understand how this happens. My Dakota did this today for the first time. I was able to start the motor, but had to keep pumping the gas while shifting into Drive in order to get going. When I stopped at a traffic light, foot on the brakes, the motor idled just fine, but stalled again when I shifted into Park after I got home.

What does shifting into Park have to do with idleing (supplying fuel to the motor)?

Does anybody know a "trusted" mechanic in Arlington, Texas ? I am unable to work on my own car because of a bad back and will need help fixing this. I'm kind of new to Texas, less than a year.

Thanks

Mike
