Subject: 1990 Brake trouble IP: Logged
Message: My brother has a 1990 3.9 long bed rc, the other day the brakes went out while driving, the brake fluid from the back reservoir was low and the front was empty. We put new fluid in and tried to pump the brakes but no luck. Any ideas? Possibly air in the lines? Or is the master cylinder bad?

Message: Check all of your break lines, the front of your master cylinder controls the back brakes. I had a line on mine rust so bad it was leaking bad, ran the front of the master cylinder dry in minutes (all of a sudden like you mentioned). Put in new fluid, got it to the in laws garage and put a new line on from Autozone. The bad one was a brake line on the frame above the drivers side tire, it was rusted really bad. Its funny, I had a 78 Ford F-100 and the truck eventually started rusting, however, the brake lines and shocks did not. On my 91 Dakota, the brake lines and shocks are rusting, but not the truck.

Message: Oh yeah, if your break lines look good, could be the one of the pistons leaking on the rear brakes. When I bought my 91 two years ago the guys said he had just replaced a leaky cylinder on the passenger side rear. Sign of a bad master cylinder, if your sitting at a stop light and your brake pedal slowly falls to the floor and kicks on the brake/ABS light. You can pump it back up but, stopped w/ your foot on the brake, it will slowly fall to the floor again. You won't lose fluid when it goes bad, the only way to lose fluid is if you have a leak somewhere. Remember to bleed the air out of the lines after you make any repair on the brakes (other than just replacing the pads). Good luck, my truck is a 91 long bed regular cab as well.

Message: first check for leaks if every thing looks fine,
then it may have just evaporated, brake fluid will do that some times, specially if its old,it should be changed every few years,
when was the last time it was checked[fluid]?
it may have been low for sometime now and no-one saw it

Message: Wanker! That's funny. Killing myself is pretty harsh dont you think? The last time I checked my posts and replies made perfect sense to me and the other people that replied, so you might just want to take some time and read them again, but this time don't reply because you have no good information to give, I'm sure you know lots of stuff about suicide, since you tend to mention it a lot, maybe you should look into it, I'm POSITIVE it would work out great for you. Maybe even some counseling for that temper. Oh yeah by the way I wacked it this morning, thank you. You might want to try it, it's a great way to relieve stress.
