Subject: 2002 Dakota won't start IP: Logged
Message: I went to get some chinese, and the truck started up fine and drove fine to the store...got my chinese food...then walk outside, turn the ignition, and it cuts out. My battery cable was semi disconnected I think. So I kept moving the connector around (mine is cracked in half from a previous accident, just never bought a new 1). So the truck started, and drove fine home.
Now, a day later I try to start it at night. Same problem, except this time I can get the truck to start, but it dies instantly. If I start pressing the gas, I can get it to run, but if I let off the gas it dies. My battery gauge is in the middle, so I know my battery isn't dead. I get no error codes, but that may be because I just disconnected it. Or, I didn't go through the re-learning of mods phase.
My 3 suspicions:
1. Bad battery cable
2. IAT relocated + 180 thermo + low temp = dak no start?
3. Didn't go through the whole re-learning of mods (aka let it sit for 1 min before trying to actually start it)
If anybody has any other ideas, I was thinking of first trying to let it re-learn. If that didn't work, try and fix my battery clip. If that didn't work, put my IAT back, and if that doesn't work get a new thermostat. Other than that I don't know what I can do.
I recently had Circuit City install a viper alarm (about 4-5 months ago)...so maybe that has a short from the rain/condensation from fog?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Message: It sounds to me like the throttle body Idle Air Controller-IAC, the sensor mounted on the back side of the throttle body will carbon up and stick causing it die unless, you clean it with carb cleaner, you need to put a small amount of oil on the O ring to properly set when you re install it. All the sensors are mounted to the throttle body with a "torx 25-t25" star headed screw. Good Luck and report back when you have solved the problem. You might want to pick up a Hayne or Chilton manual the information will aid in servicing the throttle body.

Message: I replaced the throttle body about 6k miles ago. Which was back in late august. I cleaned out the IAC sensor, but I think I'll re-check it. I'm charging it up with a battery charger right now so I can move it into the garage. Sucks having to drive the 2000 sebring, I like my truck. I'll post back if I can think of anything else.

Message: My friend had the same thing except in a carbed vehicle and it ended up being the connector on the neg wire.
