Message: Ok, so I know that the older Dakotas have cooling system problems, right. Well, this is just becoming a pain in the....well, a pain in my wallet. Ive spent way to much money on the stupid cooling system. First, right after i got my truck the heater hoses bust, so we replace all of them. Next the water pump went out, ok, we replaced it too. OK then, now the lower radiator hose goes out, fine we replace the top and the bottom hose. Alright, guess what? I have a small fender bender and they replace the radiator, thats good right? Next thing to go out is the bypass hose that runs from the water pump to the intake manifold. That was a pain to get to. After that problem, the thermostat will not open, so we replace that and the gasket for the water neck. So now, again, Ive got a leak, a bad one and i dont know where its coming from but its a bad one. ANd ive replaced everything. I do know that it is not going into the engine because its all dripping from somewhere or being slung onto the underside of my hood and around my engine bay. I dont know what to do anymore.

Message: check the o-ring that seals the metal tube that your heater hose is connected to. It has a brace at the front of your A/C compressor mount. That brace and the o-ring are all that hold it in.

Message: 93dakman, Any time I change a radiator hose or have to replace a waterpump, I generally change all the hoses at the same time. As you have experienced when one hose starts to go they all go. Statics show that radiator hoses fail the most often in the 5th year of service. The hose may look fine on the ouside but they usually go bad from the inside out. It's a good idea to change the waterpump bypass hose and heater hoses at the same time you replace your waterpump, it's more expensive that way. If you should breakdown out in the middle of nowhere or during rush hour traffic and angry drivers are shaking there fist at you, the cost of replacing all the hoses is the last thing you will think about.
