Subject: Difference in intakes? IP: Logged
Message: hey guys
I found a 2001 318 that i want to use for a transplant, but i have one problem, the guy said the intake manifold is different then that of the 93. does anybody know if my throttlebody (93 v8) will fit the 2001 and if all of my connections are the same? i know i need the 93 computer for my tranny...but will it work with the 2001 318??? Thanks

Message: You will need a 92 to 95 EGR type intake manifold
yes TB will fit and a 92 to 95 computer and add
2 injecter wires for #7 and #8 injecters the rest
will plug right in
You could run the newer type but you will get
an 32 EGR code every 50 to 100 miles and never
reach optamal perf with the code stopping the
comps learning process
Or get a V8 under hood engine hrnass and change it
Flex plate off V6 and all will bolt right up
I would also recomend a TCI Trans-Scat kit heavy
duty setup for the trans
I used to recomment the TransGo but I found out
a few months ago the new kits were updated in 99
and they are not doing all the valve body mods
they used to do.
I hade like 8 older kits on the shelf here and
just found this out
http://www.tciauto.com/tci.htm
just put 220500 in the price search, $94 with 2
day ship and if you order before 2pm central they
go out the same day very fast company

Message: Thanks larry, i called 2 dealers and a junkyard trying to find the answer to that question and nobody knew. But basically i could either swap manifolds and run an egr or change the harness for a 96+ dakota then? How hard is the harness to change, is it meshed with interior stuff or is it just unpluggable? Also that trans kit you mentioned....how do i install that, ive never dealt with trannys before and im kind of scared to do the work myself...what do you reccommend?....thanks again

Message: I meant the harness so the #7 & 8 injecter wires
would be there
If you run a newer non egr setup you would need
to change to a obd2 system
Heres the eisyest way to go,
Get 2 pins from an old harness in the bone yard
pull the orange rubber out and add them to your
exsisting plug
Pin 17 #7 injecter
Pin 18 #8 injecter
the other side just pick up a ground from one of
the other injecters for that side
plug it into the V8 comp use the 92 to 95 EGR
manifold and your all set
The trans kit does involve removing the valve
body so If you could find someone with some exp
it would make it very easy to do, it involves
drilling 5 holes bigger and removing the springs
from the 1-2 modulater drilling 1 part of the
casting out and setting the TV and presure seat
here are the online instructions take a look
The TCI does a nice jobe with the body as transgo
used to but no longer does
http://tciauto.com/instructions/220500_inst.htm
You do not have to remove the 1-2 or 2-3 servos
with there kit all done in the valve body and
makes these transmissions work great upshifting
and better down shifting
