Subject: P0134 error code...
IP: Logged

Message:
So I have the P0134 code, bank 1, O sensor 1... and the dealer wants to charge me 79.00 to read the code (again) and turn of the CE light!! Told him to order the sensor, install it and I'll clear the damn thing myself!

I can buy my own digimoto one (sinple reader, clear CE light) for that!.

Anyone else have P0134, replaced the one sensor and all was good again?

Thanks!

Call around to some of your parts stores. Alot of them will do a scan for free. I just had mine done at Advanced Auto Parts.

well if it's like my '00 there are only 2 o2 sensors. 1 before cat and 1 after. that o snesor 1 must be before the cat.

haven't had to change mine yet but, with it cooled down spray some penetrant on the threads, let it set a little then get it warmed up. it may make it easier.

I recently changed my o2 sensor, I have 1 upstream of the cat on my '95. Definately wear some mechanics gloves, defiantely do it with the engine cold, you're deal with the exhaust after all. Also coat the threads with anti-size. You'll need a open end wrench to get it out. And get the oem replacement part, it comes with the conector.. otherwise you'll have to wire the connecter yourself.

It looks like a big spark plug with a wire on the end.

If the open end of the wrench slips just cut the
wires a 6 point socket and a breaker bar and your
foot pushing on it

sometimes the o2's can be a bear to get out

I picked up the sensor (Bosch OEM) for 65.00, and I spent the 10.00 (heck I'm still saving at least 100.00) for the special Oxygen Sensor 3/8" drive socket. It's fairly tight up in there but, I figure that the socket will get a better bite on the sensor than a open-ended or even the closed end wrench.

I'll put some wd40 type lube on it and let it sit for a half-hour or so then go out and hopefully take it off without too much effort - though I do expect it to be somewhat of a bitch, as nothing can go smooth for me, lol!

I'll report back on Saturday, after changing it out. Luckily I have a motorcycle and another car to drive (that doesn't have the CE light on, lol), and can let the Dak sit till then.

BTW - will the CE Light reset on it's own after some time (or number of start/stops) or do I have to clear it out via code reader?
Thanks,
Later!

if it's still on you can reset it by disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds.

There is really no need for a hard reset it will
clear itself after so many starts and will not
trip the mil light unless something is wrong

Install it and drive away

Cool,

Thanks on both reply's. I'll install it and drive away... any idea how many start/shutoff cycles it will take larry?

BTW - I had to have a mechanic (called 3, only one was cool enough to have me in last minute today) remove the darn sensor, after fighting with it for about an hour!! hehehe. Just couldn't get any leverage on it... dude heated it up w/a torch for about 30 seconds and it came off like it was just installed!!!

So now I will wait until morning (maybe I'll go out w/a flashlight later, lol) to install the new one.

Thanks for the help!

Later,

Ok...

I installed the new sensor, and disconnect battery... CE light never went out!! Went to autozone, code 0132, high voltage to this new sensor?! I cleared the code w/their scanner and drove home (~9 miles) and no light yet... I am however going to check the connection of the 2 plugs on the sensor once it cools down to make sure I have it plugged in good and snug. I hope this isn't a defective part... or I didn't handle too rough installing (I do have the slotted socket so I would assume this wouldn't damage it...?). I'll let you all know...

BTW - Not sure if this adds anything to the discussion but, the sensor was removed last night and there was no sensor when I drove home, not sure if that would have added that code or not...

Had battery disconnect for about 20-30 seconds... maybe that wasn't long enough? Just throwing out some ideas...

Peace,

Here's the final lowdown:

The second CE light came on immediately after I installed the pre-CAT O2 sensor because the O2 sensor past the CAT was shot!! Apparently that sensor's message wasn't getting to the PCM b/c the 1st one was blocking the signal.. So I took it to Autozone, read the new code (P0138), bought new post-CAT sensor, and installed (wow, so much easier to get to that sensor!!) it.

Now after 100+ miles, no CE Light, my gas milage has returned to almost like new, and I re-installed the JET Stage II chip.

She's running great now!

Thanks for your help!

Peace!
