Subject: Oil Pan Removal IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I've seen posts on this forum about how to remove the oil pan from a Dakota. Well I must be an idiot because I can't figure it out. I'm not a rookie, I've pulled and rebuild several motors, but cannot get this pan out. I've got a 2001, 2WD, with the V6. I've unbolted the engine and have it raised until the hoist is starting to lift the front end. I've also unbolted the steering. I can move the pan around, but cannot get it to clear the tranny. I've even put a hydraulic jack at the back of the tranny, with no luck. Do I have to remove the fan, or distributor? What am I missing?
Thanks in Advance,
Larry Gray

Message: Dumb question, but did you remove the inspection/convertor cover plate from the transmission? The only other thing I can think of is that you are hitting the oil pickup. It is possible that you would have to remove distributor cap so that you can lift the engine high enough.
