Totally stock '99 DAK. Died on the road. Restarted but wouldn't rev over 2K. No power at all. Now won't start at all. No PCM Codes/MIL light. New plugs/cap/rotor. Fuel pressure=52#.
Good spark, (timing??). The PCM seems to have a high pitched squeel comming from it. Sons Neon had same squeel from PCM before he replaced it. New one = $530 from dealer.
Help?? Any ideas out there in DAK land? before I try a used PCM?

Dan

BTW, it's a 3.9. It will start when cold & idle but it still won't rev over 2K rpm. Coughs, sputters, etc. If I keep the throttle open, it'll die. If I let off slowly it'll go back to idle. When it get warm, it just won't start. Could the cat converter be partially/mostly blocked? Any ideas guys?

car-parts.com for a used pcm

If you could make it to auto zone and scan to
see all the sensors are working ok

Posible cat could do that

Did you check the fuel presure while driving
sometimes these pumps will check good at idle
and lose it on the road.

Rev it till she dies than pull a plug if dry its
the fuel pump if wet ok

Thanks J&J and ?

OK, J&J. I'll try the plug action & see.

? - I talked to a mechanic today & he said it might be the filter on the fuel pump. It'll run for a while until it gets clogged then not provide enough fuel to restart. He also said that might be the cause of the 2K rpm limit.

I think I'll try the fuel pump 1st. I'll clean it & the filter, then drain the tank, fill with H2O, drain again & drop some nails in it & shake well to try & loosen any remaining gunk in the tank. then rinse well. It'll take me a few days to do it; limited time-2 jobs; but I'll come back to let you both know what happened.

Well I got a new fuel pump assy installed and the d___ Dak still won't start. Checked the sensors and I seem to be getting the proper outputs from them. I changed the IAC with no change to the symptoms. Seems like nothing I do affects the trouble in any way. God I hope I don't have to pay for a new PCM.

My dak just decided not to start either. I made a new thread about it. I don't think it's my PCM. My dak will only start if I give it gas, otherwise it just starts for a second then dies. And it won't idle, when I let off the gas it just drops like crazy to 0 and dies.
