 Subject: Transmission Overdrive

'97 Dakota 3.9,the overdrive switch on the shifter doesnt work.What could cause this? Is it something major?

I believe the switch just grounds out the overdrive solenoid? If that's the case...it's not grounding it like it should be so the problem is in your wiring somewhere.
