Subject: 3.9l to 4.7l IP: Logged
Message: I know theres been tons of posts about converting a v6 to a v8...but can you drop a 4.7 in there? I know it next-gen stuff...so is it rediculusly(sp!) hard to do...not worth it...whatever. Any ideas? With a 5.2/5.9 you just need the v8 wiring harness and computer right? I dont think it could be that easy with the 4.7...Thanks again.

Message: If automatic, you'd also need to change the transmission. You''l need 4.7 PCM and wiring harness; and unless your 3.9 truck is from a year the 4.7 was offered, the PCM might not interface properly with your gauges.

Message: Its a 98, so Im pretty sure they didnt offer the 4.7 yet...sadly...but why would that affect the gauges? And my truck is a manual, why would an automatic make a difference?

Message: 4.7 PCM controls 45RFE or 545RFE, different transmission, different signals. IF everything in the dash is the same as '00, you might get it to work; but PCMs are usually year specific.
