Subject: a/c = ping?? IP: Logged
Message: i used to have ping.
did full tuneup with brass cap/rotor, 8mm wires, ap3923's.
no more ping.
now its colder out, and i'm getting better fuel mileage.
sometimes in the afternoons it gets a bit warm so i turn on the a/c.
ping comes back.
turn the a/c dial off, ping goes away.
this happens about 60% of the time (in the past few weeks since the weather cooled off). the rest of the time its fine.
the part that is interesting though is that when this does occur, i shut the a/c off and the pings stop immediately, and they restart as soon as i turn the dial back on.
had ping occasionally going up a hill, but never connected to a/c useage all summer in 110+ weather.
anyone have an explanation?

Message: How many miles on your truck? It sounds to me like you might have a vacume leak causing a lean condition. It's possible that you have a plenum gasket leaking, maybe some oil consumption? Check your intake manifold and all the vacume ports to make sure they are connected properly or blocked off with rubber plugs. You might try switching to a 180 degree thermostat and see if that helps.
A weak or defective O2 sensor might be sesing a rich condition telling the computer to lean out the mixture. Just my thoughts, try checking for vacume leaks first, then the 180 thermostat next. Good Luck and report back what you have found.
