Subject: Idle speed control IP: Logged
Message: The push rod on my idle speed control motor asy. is broken off and the guy I bought the truck off of had the stop wired so it would not stall.
Until I can get the money for a new idle speed control and motor asy, I put a threaded plate with a bolt mounted to the bracket to keep the idel up, I screw the bolt in or out to set idle.
My question is what is the normal idle speed?
1991 Dak. with standard 5 speed tranny.
My haynes book does not mention the idle speed, the sticker under the hood says idle is not adjustable and does not mention the speed.

Message: I'm not sure on what it is suppose to be but 850 or 900 would be a good rpm too set it at. My 91 idled around 850 back when it was fuel injected.

Message: Thanks Mike, the bolt and threaded "rube goldburg" thing I made works but when I set the idle to about 800 RPM when enging is cold, all is good.
But after the engine reaches full heat it is racing, so I reduce the idle back down to about 800-900 RPM, when it is cold it just barely runs and I have to keep foot on gas untill it warms up.
Guess I will have to buy the idle speed motor asy.
Being a standary tranny I did not think it would be needed, I am used to working on the old cars like my 1970 Dodge Polara.
