Subject: Bad Gas?

Hi all. I have a '94 Dakota 4x4 with a 3.9L and automatic. It has over 146,000 miles and has never given me any real problems. While driving to work Monday morning it started to knock and ping and started losing power. It only seems to occur around 65 - 75 mph and around 2000 rpms. When it shifts out of overdrive it seems to stop, but starts again as soon as it shifts back. This also only seems to occur while traveling uphill. Even a slight grade is enough to cause it.

I'm wandering if this could be caused by bad gas or if it's something more serious. I filled up with Exxon 87 octane on Sunday night and didn't drive anywhere until Monday morning. It's never knocked on 87 before this, and it sounds really bad, almost like popcorn in the microwave. Has anyone out there experienced anything similar?

Thanks,
Joe

Possible - bad gas !
Also possible EGR valve/solenoid/sensor
dirty or sticking .
Also possible - injector ' dirty ' ?
Have you put any injector cleaner thru lately ?

It could be something with the fuel delivery system (bad gas, fuel filter or fuel pump)

Sometimes a faulty 02 sensor or a plugged catalytic converter can rob power like that too.
