Subject: 3 fuel pumps in 11,000 miles, Need help? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 03 Dakota Stampede V6 The dealer has
replaced the fuel pump 3 times do the loud whining
noise coming from the rear of the truck while in idle. If
the turn signal is on the fuel pump turns the whining
into a alarm type sound coming from the trucks rear.
Each new pump works fine for almost 300 miles then
starts the same noise, then the mileage drops to 12 to
13 miles to gallon and starts to run slugishly like I am
towing a large trailer. What could be doing this. The
dealer and I are running out of options I dont want to
have to resort to lemon laws and a lawyer.

Message: They need to start tracing the wiring harness and seeing if theres a short someone causing the fuel pump to fail. If they just keep replacing the fuel pump and not looking for the problem itself then there not doing a very good job.

Message: one of the clues should be the fact that the turn signal affects the sound. gotta agree with trest: wiring/ground issue is likely. A voltmeter should tell the story! a skilled mechanic would also check the fuel pump with an oscilliscope! they also should verify the fuel pressure - just to check everything out.
