I am going to buy a new or rebuilt transmission for my 1997 Dakota 3.9 auto. Any suggestions, as to where I should buy, would be greatly appreciated..Should I buy one and have it put in or just let the a tranny shop handle it. I have about 2000 to spend. Thanks

Is there a local tranny shop that gets high recommendations? I'm sure plenty of people have gone the mail-order route and had success - but if you have problems its much easier to get satisfaction if you can work directly with the rebuilders. I'd be shy of the chains and look for a local shop that is busy and has a good rep. do you have any car club or gear-head buddies that can recommend a place? any contacts that deal with fleet maintenance?
