My 91 has the A500. Recalled once for a brass bushing replacement. Replaced because the tranny could accidently move into reverse with high pressure in Park.

im new to dakotas, but that is the 3 speed right? my dads dakota is an 88 and needs a new tranny. so any from 88-96 will work? thanks for any help

No, they're 4-speed electric overdrive. Not sure how late the 42RH goes, but 95 or 96 is about right.

The older A500's had only 1 solonoid on the valve
body for O/D
92 to 95 early 96 42RH have 2 O/D and lockup
late 96 and newer 3 42RE they added the elec gov
presure control
The 91 would be a A500 O/D 4 speed and a 92 and up
will not work but check by calling chrysler with
your vin code they can punch it in and get a build
sheet from DCC late 91 may have 2 solonoids

so my 88 3spd is an A500 with one solonoid on the valve body for O/D? i guess im wanting to know which years i can look for. i know nothing about trannys so thanks for all the help
