Subject: Strange noise ??? IP: Logged
Message: '89 Dakota, 3.9l auto, 180t miles. Engine makes strange WHIRRING noise, all rpm's, engine runs strong but oil pressure gauge seems low(on or just under normal operating range. Oil pump change? Noise from trans/converter? Anyone had the same?

Message: If it does it at idle, than you know its the engine and not the trans or the diff. If not rev the engine in nuteral if it whines, than it is the motor.

or alternatot bearings ?
Use a broom handle or similar as a
" stethoscope " -=- find where the noise is
coming from ?
push the broom handle against different areas and
put your ear on the other end ..

Message: Yes, thought I might remove belts from accesories to narrow it down. Got truck with 120T miles and engine always had a harmonic vibration cruising above 3000 rpm. anyone had the same???
