Subject: Alternator Interchangability and Pulley IP: Logged
Message: My 1993 Dakota has the base 90 amp alternator. I want to upgrade. The aftermarket 180+ amp alternators are overkill for me as well as expensive. I can go with the 120 amp factory alternator. But, I would like to go with a 1997+ 136 amp alternator. Will a 1997+ 136 amp alternator bolt up to my engine? Will the wiring be the same?
Also, I recall one time seeing on here that after a certain year the alternator pulley became smaller therefore turning the alternator faster. Does anyone know when that changed?
Thanks,
Luke

Message: i believe they changed pulley size in 97 but i could be wrong, and yes it did go a slight amount smaller and that would overdrive your alt so you get more charge. but i am not completely sure about when they changed....you dont the pulley when you buy a new one anyway so just find a newer pulley and buy the same alt for the 93
