Subject: How much power gain from CPS Mod. IP: Logged
Message: I have been reading posts on what I can do to increase power on my 99 Dak with the v6. I haven't started yet. I consider'in the cheap things first like; relocated IAT sensor, CPS mod, cold air intake, Autolite 3923's gapped out to .045", then things like a v8 throttle body, MSD ignition, headers, port match intake manifold. Money is kind of tight right now, I'll do the cheap things first. MY BIG QUESTION IS WHAT KIND OF POWER INCREASE FROM THIS MOD? I have seen that it will advance timing about 4 degrees. Maybe Larry or one of Dak experts can answer this one.

Message: cant really give an exact number but its not gonna be alot. Plus you will probably have to start running 93 fuel. 4 degrees timing advance is a good bit, but as far as seat of your pants feel, you're not going to feel much.

Message: Low and mid torque will increase
so you get a little better acceleration
HP will only increase by one or two.
HP is more like towing capacity on the freeway.
Torque is how quickly you get up to speed..

Message: Just pulled a dyno run with my 3.9 (which is completely built) I made 3 pulls 1 all motor, 1 all motor and CPS mod, 1 all motor no cps mod and a 150 shot of nitrous. heres the numbers, this is rear wheel by the way on a 1998 reg cab 2wd 5spd.
All motor: 234hp 270tq @5100 rpm
CPS mod: 230hp 261tq @4900 rpm
Nitrous: 312hp 340tq @5100
Now before people start calling me a liar on these numbers, this is with 10.5:1 compression on a FULLY built v6 NOTHING on this engine is stock except block and crank. So if you're going to slam me on this dont respond, I have the numbers.

All of those modifications and you are running a stock PCM?

Message: With any timing advance on a motor that can take more timing with out pinging u would typically see in the area of 5-10 hp
But if u get any pinging and that includes off idle when u stomp on it back it off 4-5 degrees cause its only hurting ur performance.

Message: No, I sent my computer off to have it programed by a freind of mine. Thats why im figureing the drop on power with the cps mod done, im adding too much advance with that program he gave me. While i was not detonating on this pull, when you start adding too much timing on top of the large amount of advance i already have you start losing power, the orignal post wanted numbers so thats what i gave him. But for what Just looking said on 5-10hp off 4 degrees, thats really pushing the power numbers. If this gives an idea on the amount of timing advance im running i have to pull off about 15 degrees of timing when I spray using a retard module.

Message: N56629, you obviously didnt read what you posted for yourself, what did i say, nothing is stock except for block and crank! This also includes electronics. The only thing stock on this truck as far as power goes is the block and crank

I did and just wanted to make sure that what you said was irrelevant and not taken the wrong way. By implying that people might not believe you, it became misleading. If you had explained that you were already running as much or more advance than a person that would typically be interested in the CPS, it would have been obvious why it wouldn't work for even without the dyno test results.
You might as well have pointed out that you got poor results when you installed a ported and polished stock tb, without explaining that you installed in place of a 55mm or 58mm f&b.

Message: No this motor is not a stroker, it is a stock 3.31" stroke. I built the engine, i just had friend of mine do the computer work. This engine has round about 6500$ in it, (should have bulit a v8) but i was curious as to power capable of these motors.
N56629, I apologize for that remark i made to ya, but the orginal post wanted numbers, and nothing else so thats what i gave him

Message: My son has a 04 dakoda V6. His problem is when slowing down to about 35 to 40 mph, then accelerates back up to speed, the RPM's runs up high. The truck seem's like it hesitates. He has taken to the dealer, without any real fix. His tranny has been flushed, before this problem, codes has been reset, and still does the same thing. Anyone out there have any help on this problem? Thanks in advance.

Message: What is a CPS mod? I have a 99 4x4 5.2 dakota and I am looking at getting more power out of it. Money is tight I am disabled and on a fixed income please let me know what this mod is and if there are any other inexpensive ways to boost power and mpg. I get 11.5 mpg and its killing me. Please if anyone can help me I would appreciate the advice. Also if these mods are some what easy some directions would also be helpful. Thanks for your help.

Message: Remove the CPS (crank position sensor)
Slot the bolt holes
Reinstall it and slide it as far possible towards
the oil filter
You will then need to go one range colder on the
plugs NGK-FR5's are highly recommended
