aloha, I have a 99 dakota, sometimes, when I start it, I have ti keep the idle high to keep it running, put a new battery and it worked fine for a while. had the charging system checked and it was good. Now, as I am driving along, usually at lower speeds, all my gauges drop to zero and the speedometer reeds "NO BUS" Any ideas?

My truck started having electrical problems this past Friday. I had to buy a new battery cable and it seemed fine after I replaced it. Then, Friday night, my headlights would flicker(dim a little and then get bright again). I moved the negative cable around and they were fine. Saturday morning, my truck had to be cranked about 4 times b4 it'd stay running. It ran fine until saturday night. Me and my g/f were goin down the interstate at 85 mph when it decided to slow down and cut off. (It really sucks being on the interstate at 11 pm when its 40 degrees with ppl speeding by you!) Yesterday morning, I didnt even get a mile from my house and it cut off while going about 50 mph uphill. I got it out of the way of traffic and tried to crank it but it wouldn't start. We let it sit for around 10 minutes and then it cranked. After I got it back home, I didn't drive it any more. Hopefully tomorrow a guy I know is supposed to come by and check it out for me. This is really pissing me off that

ON MY 99 i GET THE no bus MESSAGE AND ALL GUAGES DROP TO ZERO WHEN (damn caps) I use my Superchips micro tuner. This is during the process where the tuner removes the programming from the PCM and before it loads in the power tuning. I'd bet you are having a PCM problem.

I have a similar problem, but haven't seen the "No BUS" meassage. It hasn't stalled on the road, but I get a slow crank once or twice a week. It starts, but I have to keep it at a high idle. As soon as I take my foot off the gas it stalls. Wait 5 minutes, and it cranks and idles fine (??). The other day when I turned the key to "on", the radio and dash lights (incl. the clock/station light) clicked on and off several times. Any ideas?

Have yall checked the ground on the motor itself yet??? I had a problem to where mine wouldn't crank while it was cold and was simply due to the fact that my ground was minorly corroded on the "powersteering pump" I think where it attaches to the block... It would also have to be revved up a little while idling a lot like yall are having to do to yours...

That's interesting. My initial thought was battery, but that didn't seem to make sense because it cranked fine after a couple of minutes. I cleaned the contact terminals at the battery, but didn't think to clean the ground at the block (?duh). I also cleaned the throttle body (with was gummed), sensors, and added some high quality injector cleaner, but that didn't seem to correct the problem. Thanks for pointing out a job half done! I'll give it a try and see if anything changes.

Two weeks ago my Fuseable Link went! That connects the +batt.cabl. with Alt. cable in the powersource box next to battery. Cool! Now this is where it snowballs into just dying out in the middle of driving, and starting the next day. To watch it dye out and not restart. When i took the keys out the gauges went up and down, and the dash lights flicker 3 or 4 times. Is there any ideas out there i need help.

Matt, like the others, I think it COULD be a ground. there are several grounds on the engine, now mine is an 88, but I have 2 ground wires on the back side of the passenger side head, and one where the batt. conects to the eng. plus one on the body from the batt. It would be a good idea to check the Positive cable as well, make sure its clean at the batt and starter.
Sorry I don't have any more ideas.
Good Luck
