Subject: Codes 12, 35, 17. 91' Dak IP: Logged
Message: I know the "12" is the battery was disconnected code, and one of the other codes is low idal(i'm at work, don't have the book with me) and the other code is engine too cold.
But the "35" and the "17" code should be gone as I put on over 1000 miles on truck and have not disconnected battery since.
Also at that time (1000 miles back)I put in a 195 degree thermostat.
Do I need to do a hard reset, battery disconnected and hold key in start position for 30 sec.?
If so will the truck run bad untill the computer "learns"?
The only problem I have now is it bucks until it gets fully up to heat, than it runs good.
The low idal I am sure is due to the idal plunger is missing and the guy I bought the truck wired the linkage stop so it will not stall, I will replace the idal motor unit when I get some extra $$$.
It just bought another coolant sensor today, will try that, and any help on the computer needing to be reset or not will be appriciated.
Thanks.

Message: Yes , you need to do the reset to ' clear ' the codes !!
Is the light on ? If off = problems repaired !
But codes remain until reset...

Yes the codes will remain untill you do a hard
reset or 50 starts without tripping them they
will clear themselfs
Running a 180 in a colder climit will trip the
17 every time try a reg 195 stant it will run
right around 185 because the orginal thermo is
a meterd type.

Message: Thanks guys, Larry, I did put in a heavy duty Stant 195 about 1000 miles back, if I do a hard reset, will the truck run badly until the computer "learns" the new thermostat and coolant sensor I put in?
Truck is standard with fan clutch, no fan relay as I can see, for the code 35.
My Haynes book says 35 is fan relay or engine idle too low.
Larry are you refering to the radiator fan?
