I have a "broken" cable/sensor on the passenger side of the bell housing on a 1992 Dakota 4X4.
Won't start. What is the thing called and what is it'spurpose?

that's the crank position sensor. it's to tell the pcm when your plugs need to fire. like what the distributors used to do. change it, then your truck should start. barring any other catastrophies.
