Subject: truck won't warm up in winter IP: Logged
Message: I'm from sask. canada and winters do get cold. My dakota takes a long time to warm up. Why? the coolant is good and full. It doesn't seem to warm up until I'm driving. can anybody give me ideas on how fix it.

Message: how long is a long time? i mean blocks and everything on the engine is some form of metal. it will store heat or cold and take longer to transfer from one to the other. Does it take double or triple the time to warm up as it does on warm days, or like 10 minutes? if it gets warm with normal driving within 3 minutes and the temperature is at or below freezing i would assume its fine.

Message: Has your truck allways done this, or is this something that has just started, when was the last time you replaced your thermostat? It sounds like your thermostat could be stuck open. Even on the coldest days (below -30c) my truck does not take any longer than 10 minutes to fully warm up and it blows lots of hot air(the truck not the driver).

Message: Most likly the thermostat. because when it's 0 celcius outside. the truck will run for ten minutes and still blow cold air.

Message: I agree with red neck. I use a 195 and I have never put on a winter front on my truck. Make sure you do a good job cleaning the old gasket and sealent off. I use a good puddy scraper and some fine sand paper to get all the old stuff off and clean it with varsol and wipe clean with a clean rag. I also use permatex(sp?) number 2(it is black in color) as a sealer. This has a resistance to the glycol in anti-freeze which can break down other sealers.
