Subject: Oil Change IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys..Just bought a 2000 dakota 4x4, what a sweet truck. I was wondering if access to the oilfilter for hand removal is possible. Also, where is the oil pan drain located? One more. Is the fuel filter hidden, or easy access near the gas tank?
thanks
kyle

Message: I find it's always easier to have them up on jack stands, so the tires can "hang down". I know the the 5.2L, it's easier for me to install the oil filter buy getting out from under the truck, and going through the wheel well...easy access.

Message: Hey Kyle: i have a 2000 2wd quad so mine might be different, the oil drain plug is located on the oil pan, it is in the center position of the pan you can't miss it, and also with mine i have to use ramps to get to my oil filter because my truck is too low to the ground, but i think with a 4wd you might just be able to slide under and grab it, providing your not too round in the middle section, and also i believe the fuel filter is in the fuel tank, the only time you should worry about changing it, is if the thing is crapping out on you, or you are having work done on the tank itself, just wait until it fails then change it. i hope this helps you
