I have this strange bog i get off idle.

I hit the gas (lightly or stomping on it)it jumps from a stop then bogs out (sometimes rpms dip with bog) until just above 2000 rpm then takes off then at around 3000 it has another noticable step up and pulls noticably harder until rev limiter

If it shifts and drops below 2000 rpm it bogs and barely accelerates until past that.
With the bog i get a throaty gargle sound and right when the bog ends the sound disapears.

When it gets cold out (50F and below) the strange bog almost vanishes completly

Thanks in advanced

Had the dealer take a look at it after the map tripped a code(code was no signal from map sensor)
They hook it up to there computer (means time for them to jerk me around)
They find the iac isnt in the position its suppossed to be during idle, the injector pulse goes to neg. and out of spec for a sec then comes back into spec and does this every second (not sure what it means so help on this would be appreciated)
Then they say since the problems are intermitent we cant replace anything...

Feeling pod after the whole day was wasted at a dealer yet again not to have anything done and to have them jerk me around. I went out and bought a new map sensor and replaced it...

My gas mileage went up after replacing the map sensor, my power comes on more smoothly, it also feels like it has more pep, and idle smoothed out a bit.

BUT...

I still have the danged bog off idle (some times cuts out for a sec)and just before 2,000 rpm after that it pulls nicely until rev limiter.

Also it still has a huge loss of power when it gets to full running temp and anything above 55F outside temp. I checked timing and noticed it bounces all over the place until mid rpms. (bad timing chain maybe?)
When the engine was at idle in Park i moved the throttle slowly and noticed rpms would drop noticeably a little ways off idle about 1200 rpm and not return (im thinking iac is closing but threw it out there just in case)

Any help appreciated!

Sounds like you have a couple problems making your truck do what it does.

1 - Your "belly pan", "intake plenum", what you want to call it. (too many nick names running around for car parts any more.) It's the pan that's bolted to the bottom of the intake manifold that keeps the air in the intake and the oil down in the motor. It's a pretty flimsy peace of metal that over time vibrates the gasket apart. When this happens you lose vaccum because the air is escaping, and you start burning oil because what vaccum you still pull is pulling the oil in through the leaking gasket. There are a handfull of after market places that sell a 1/4" thick belly pan that isn't nearly as foregiving as the stock tin foil one. If you are going to be doing the work this would be a great investment knowing that you probably won't have to do it ever again.

2 - You're probably right about your IAC sensor. It does get clogged up from time to time (years) and needs to be cleaned out real well. There is a place on the net somewhere that has great pictures and such that will help you see what you need to do. Or you can simply just replace it.

3 - Your IAT (intake air temp) sensor could be wearing out also or just too gummed up to read proper temps from oil if your belly pan is deffinetly leaking. They're cheap so just replace it.

With all tose things together it would cause the same symtoms you mentioned. Hope this helps.

Later,
Buck

I had replaced the belly pan gasket a couple months ago but ill take a look at it just in case.
The iac was cleaned at the same time i replaced the belly pan gasket and it fixed a stalling problem i had. It still could be lazy and may not be responding as fast as it should be so ill take a closer look at it.
The iat runs off an adjuster that is set at any temp it runs the best at and thats 65-85 F during the hot summer days and winter its set right on the temp using the overhead console.

Thanks

Get a free scan at Auto Zone and check your o2 it
may be getting lazy

Also check your TPS voltage get it upto .7 or more
this will help

I checked vaccuum hoses they appear to be good and the ends of them have no cracks.

My tps was set at .75 i set it at .80 since i liked the response better at .8 . I rechecked it and it was at .79.

I dont have an Auto Zone or a place to get it scanned at. Would a volt meter work for that
and is there a different wire i can probe without going under and getting burned?

Thanks

I had to bring this post back up.
Some of my bog came from running the 3923s(guess my truck didnt like them). I put in ap5224s and the low end has a much smoother transition and the bog isnt like it was. The rest of the bog thats left im positive is from my modified intake manifold.I guess that 1/2 inch i removed was to much ont he runners.

Ill be adding an msd unit to the mix and see how that affects things.

Hey just looking, I modified my intake as well, the thing you need to do when you shave the runners is to fill in some of the "extra" space inside the manifold. I used belzona. I removed about 1/2 inch, but milled them at about a 45 degree angle, as well as removed about 2 inches from the divider. Accelerates like a beast now.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

Is that stuff you mentioned runny?

All i really have to do is find something the consistensy of grease and inject it in there but it has to be thick enough to not flow through a 1/16 crack or it will run out of the plates i had welded in there.

No, not runny at all, has the consistancy of warm modeling clay. You could try high temp silicone, but it has to cure for 7 days.

If it ain't broke, fix it til it is.

I may go the hightemp silicone route. Right now it appears i have a small gap i can inject stuff into without removing the manifold. If i get the time ill run a search on the net for something that may work for my intended application.

I just installed a msd unit today and love how it complimentes my mods. Their isnt words to describe how smooth it made my truck run. It also added a nice kick to the pants to the entire rpm range.

Just one question can the stock coil take the msd with out a problem? I ran it for an hour and the stock coil was still cool to the touch.
