Whats the towing capacity on the 3.9 in a mid 90's dak? Im looking for a truck right now to haul my quad and maybe tow a trailer with 2-3 more quads on it but I would like to stick with the 6 cyl for gas milage reasons... whats the tow capacity on the v6 dak and how does the v6 mpg compare to the 5.2?

Thanks, also the trailer would be ~3,000 pounds at the most and of course have trailer brakes

I'm not sure on what the actual tow info would be, but I have a 96' 3.9L with a class III hitch and I've been able to pull a 20' foot on a 24' trailer, with no trailer brakes and my truck was fine. Couldn't use 5th gear on the highway if I wanted to accelerate, but smoothland and downgrades were no problem. Considering that you're only towing quad's, I don't think you'll have a problem.

Just an update: the trailer with boat probably weighs about 3500 to 4500 lbs.

I believe that my truck (ext cab, 4x4, auto, 3.9) has a towing capacity of 4500 lbs.

I tow a boat and trailer that weighs 3500 lbs. It is a bit of a load going up hills with the A/C on. I always tow with the overdrive turned off.

I have a '95 SLT CC 4x4 with 3.9L auto. I have a Class III hitch on it. I have used it a few times to tow the large uhaul trailer. Up to a total of around 4000lbs i would guess.

gas milage sucked! 10-12 mpg not exceeding 55 mph. this was combined hill, curves and straight. Totaling about 200 miles

If you plan on towing often, i would recommend the V8, for ease.

Do expect a bit of shaking at higher speeds. It's alot harder to stop even with a trailer with a braking mechanism. I think my truck has a GVW of around 8500 lbs

the numbers directly from a 1997 sales brochure are, all are for 3.9
4X4 CC shortbox 3,800
4X2 CC shortbox 3,600
4X4 RC 4,100
4X2 RC longbox 2,000
4X2 RC shortbox 2,000
with the rare 10,500 lb. GCWR rating you can increase the tow load to, in order to the above numbers,
6,800
6,800
6,500
6,500
6,200
these numbers do not indicate pulling power but the inability of the stock brakes to haul you down to stop should you need to.
