Subject: 3.9 Idle speed IP: Logged
Message: My '89 seems to idle awful high. It's almost impossible to stop on slick roads w/o putting it into neutral. I've turned the idle down, but when I had a tune-up done, they reset it to "factory settings". Is there anyway to slow this baby down so I can get stopped on snow cover roads? Truck also seems to jump and slam hard when put into gear...is this also idle related? If I can't do something...I'm gonna have to sell...winter's comin!

Message: If you have ruled out Idle adjustment...My next step would be to look for a vacuum leak...starting with the intake manifold gasket area. Are you familar with the old WD-40 or starting fluid method for vacuum leak detection?

Message: Yeah, I've done that when I had a stalling issue because of a vaccum leak...ended up replacing the gasket under the TB. In fact...that's when the shop re-adjusted my idle faster.

Message: How far out is the idle compesator? Have you checked the voltage on the throttle position sensor? Hose on the MAP sensor? What is the timing with the temp sensor disconnected?

Message: I have a 94 Dak with the same issue. IT is at 400 RPM and it is just too low for my likings. When I put it in D. it tries to stall. I increased the idle screw but it will go back down to 400 RPMs. Anyone knwo about this?
