It is a 5 speed standard, sometimes it is tough to get it into first or reverse, clutch pressure plate seems strong and pedal feels good, fluid in clutch master cyclinder is full but it gets hard to put it into gear sometimes, note, it does not do it all the time. Other times it shifts fine and I have no trouble getting it into gear.
Guy I bought the truck from clains he put in a new clutch, truck has 182K miles on it.
When I do have trouble getting it into gear, it makes a groaning sound, not a gear grinding sound, but a strange groaning sound.

if it doesnt want to downshift into gear it could be a variety of things, could be your clutch, or even your tranny's syncro's. im not an expert by any means with transmissions but my friends car was doin that and his clutch was eaten to $hit. good luck.

Sounds like the hydraulics in the system or maybe he didn't get the correct clutch, that happened to me on my 94 dakota, I got the wrong clutch from the parts dealer two times, finaly the third one (I got from a different source) was correct. The wrong clutch worked sort of some of the time but not always .....

Thanks guys, truck is shifting okay since I first posted this question.
I wanted to mention that the throwout bearing is noisy but only when clutch pedal is up (engaged)it rattles a little sounds like the rod bearings in the engine are bad, when I first heard this I thought the engine was shot.
But when I push down on the clutch, the noise goes away and all is quiet.
