What are the signs to look for telling a carburetor needs to be rebuilt?

Message: '87 here too. I had my carb rebuilt recently, with in the last 4 months but I'm still having problems with the accelerator pump. When I got it back I noticed the pump shot wasn't working. Pulled it back off, the guy readjusted it. It worked fine for a while but now it's failing again. When i had it in he said it was working fine on the bench. Is there something else that comes into play with the accelerator pump? Vacum, fuel pump/pressure maybe? Or is there something defective in the rebuild of the pump. it looks prety simple to me. Any help appreciated. It was a reputable carb shop that did the work. Thanks.
