Message: I understand what you are saying. My 98 V6 3.9L Dakota Sport doesnt seem to have that fan either that I see everyone talking about. Mine seems to be running hot, and I read somewhere to check the fan, what fan???

Message: If I remember correctly, only Dakotas with the heavy duty cooling package got an auxilary electric fan in front of the radiator in addition to the engine driven fan.

Message: i believe the electric aux fans started in '00. my '00 QC has one. and no i don't have the hd cooling option.
Tr1sha, are you loosing any coolant? there are a lot of things that can make it run hot. leaks are the first thing i'd look for.

Message: I have looked at several Dakotas with small coolant leaks and everyone of them had the same leak. the TSTAT housing was leaking. It was a small leak and would evaporate before it ever hit the driveway. Tightened the bolts a bit and the leak stopped. Use a flashlight and shine it down at the TSTAT housing and if it is wet at all, tighten the 2 bolts. Hope this helps.
