I have a 1992 3.9, Dakota. Is there a simple procedure to reset the "maintenance required" indicator light without purchasing any special (expensive)equipment?
Thanks

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for
a few minutes and turning key to start position for a few seconds with battery disconnected ?
Then reconnect battery and " go " !

First, thanks for your reply.
Yes, I read previous questions/responses regarding other indicator resets and did do a battery disconnect and turned the ignition on the switch. I also went to an auto parts store and used their obdII code reader and reset codes. I also called a Dodge dealership and was told to disconnect both battery cables and touch them together for 30 seconds.
After all this... the light remains on. I was told that there is a battery(9volt) in the dash that needs to be replaced. I'm still looking for an answer

It also could still be on because the problem that turned it on in the first place still exists...

I read somewhere that it is programmed to come on at a certain mileage and has to do with the life of the cat. converter and also that it can only be reset at a dealership.

According to the service manual, this is a reminder, and not so much a problem. The lamp comes on at 60,000mi increments for emission control service,EGR, PCV,.....Although on the dash the lamp is "Maintenance Required", the manual calls it the "EMR" light (Emission Maintenance Reminder). The instruction for resetting is to connect a DRBII tool(?) to the on board diagnostic connector.Next refer to the DRBII Functional Flow diagram in the appropriate Powertrain diagnostic procedures manual...follow the diagram to reset the EMR light.
There must be an simplier way. If I find a resolution, I will definitely post. Thanks

In the 89 and up trucks you have to reset it via the diagnostics port with a scanner. The 88 and older ones there was just a button you could depress to reset it. Where are you located ross? I can reset them for you.

My parent's 1992 Ram Van with the 3.9 had the same light that came on at exactly 60,000 miles. It stayed on for a while and I finally just removed the bulb. The van now has about 180,000 miles and they don't have to worry about it with no bulb.
