Subject: 99 Dakota V6 - engine dies IP: Logged
Message: First! A thank you to all folks who input information regarding the ABS speed sensor (weird speedometer, ABS, and brake light) - I was able to fix that problem and the truck has been running fine.
I am now faced with another problem. Engine seemed sluggish for about 20 miles and then died at a stop light (and yes, there was much horn blowing!) The odometer displayed bus errror, and would not restart for about 15 minutes. After it restarted it seemed to run fine. I ran the trip odometer diagnostic test and no initial code came up - it just went through the walking segment test. But, after that the check engine light came on for a short time and then went off. I know someone out there has had this problem, so once again I seek the wisdom of the Dakota folks.
Thanks

Message: I'd highly recommend getting a scanner and finding out what that code is before you get stranded somewhere or something expensive breaks that you have a chance to prevent.

Message: Thanks for the reply. I don't have access to scanner, so I will probably have to go to dealer. I want to update this as to this mornings actions. Drove to work (around 25 minutes), pulled into the parking lot - was shifting with clutch disengaged and engine died. Check engine light came on. I was still moving so I engaged clutch in second gear and engine restarted without any problem. I find it interesting that, in yesterday's stall at the light, I had to wait to get the engine restarted. (Possibly something associated with the truck not moving)
Just want to put all the info in this post so that if someone else has similar issue, they might not have to pay for dealer troubleshooting.

Message: First, a clarification. The check engine light is not on continuously.
As far as the idle control - the engine does not surge, slow down, or speed up. It just plain quits running. Also, cruise works fine.

Message: Went to dealer this morning. No codes showed up. But, they could not get a response from the CAB module - appears it's dead. I think I've spent more money on repairs for this truck than my previous vehicles combined!
