I was driving along the freeway when I noticed the Malfunction Indicator light was on.... Well I am driving a new 2004 Dodge Dakota 3.7L with only 700 miles on it. I did the on-off trick and foudn out the code was p2099 well, no one knows what code that is for and called the dealer they said they dont know the code either but I should bring it in. I can't bring it in for another week though.
Anyone know what code p2099 is?
And yes I checked the gas cap it was on....

Its a 2004 3.7L Crew Cab Magnum
I think it might have to do with the gas or something because I have been getting terrible gas mileage, but i dont have a bed cover yet so I figure the mpg is bad because of that... I am still learning the truck since it has only 700 miles...First time I filled up, light turned on, the tank still had 5 gallons in it, and it was about 220 miles with most of it highway, then next was 230 with most of it being city... now I jsut filled it up with 17 gallons at 238 miles, seems a little low...

I have noticed a little extra noise when I am at idle and have also heard the truck downshifting different then last week, thought it was jsut because everything was gettign broken in....
It doesn't have a rough or shaky ride jsut mainly noise
Just thought I might be able to get some info before I go to the dealer, since it is still under warranty

Take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty and make them give you a loaner free-of-charge.

I posted what happened with my dakota on another thread, but it is exactly what u are going through, here is what happened to me.
"I got my 2004 Quadcab with the 3.7L on Aug. 23. At mile 199 my Check Engine Light came on. Code was P 2099(which is some kind of rich fuel code). I took it to the dealer and they cleared it, and told me that it was probably caused by being repeatedly started on the lot. 5 days later at mile 710, the light came on again, and had the same P 2099 code as well as P 2097. I was at of town when it came on the second time and before i could make it to my appointment with the dealer, at mile 1020 the light went off. I am now at around mile 2100 or so, and haven't seen the light since."
I have had no trouble since, and am at around mile 2600.
By the way, my last mileage was 17.7 mpg with the tailgate down, all highway.

Its at the dealer right now.... gave me a choice of a silverado or a ram 2500 of a loaner..hehe.. thought I was going to get a toyota or honda, will have ot wait to see what they do

Last time I had my truck at the dealer they gave me chevy cavalier, 4 doors, no power windows or locks, horrible accelerationg and drivability and the passenger seat belt locked!
