Subject: Valve Cover Gasket (RUBBER OR CORK) IP: Logged
Message: I just replace a cover gasket on my 1988 Dodge Dakota 4WD. And it's still leaking. I bought a rubber gasket. Which is better? Or how can I fix the leak?

Message: I think cork does a better job for older vehicles, beacause it seems to mold better when things are not as striaght as they use to be. To provide a good seal. I did my valve cover gaskets years ago and they are still not leaking. Wish I could say the same for my T-case. It is very important not to over tighten the bolts when re-installing.

Message: I would have to say the rubber offer a bit better of a seal. I think they mold a little bit better because of the heat, you just have to tighten them properly. I put some on my 90 dak and they work great

Message: Spend the extra money and get them from chrysler
they are better quility gaskets
And be sure you take a hammer and tap back the
bend by the bolt holes they get from tighting and
they will not leak for years and years
Do not over tighten when installing about 12 foot pounds
