I have an auto trans on an 02 Dak. There is no real problem, i am just wondering about something. When i got to pass someone, is it normal for the transmission to drop down to second? It seems unnecessary and really doesnt help much because the tranny just shifts to third after a few seconds. Is this normal?

at what speed are you passing at? the 98 3.9L I had (auto with 3:55 gears) would wind out in second at ~60 mph (if I remember correctly). so if i was at 50 it would go into second for omly 10 MPH and into 3rd.... So yes second is the passing gear...
So as long as your tranny isn't slipping, it should be OK...
