Subject: O2 Sensor replacement
IP: Logged

Message:
I know I know. I have looked in the topic boards but I have not found what I am looking for. I need to replace the 1st O2 Sensor on my truck. It is not moving. We are stripping the head of the sensor just trying to get it out. It isn't budging. So my question is, if I replace the Y-pipe with JBA's y-pipe is there a spot for the O2 sensor. Also any other Ideas on gettin the sensor out?

I used vice grips- wrecked the old one, if the new Y pipe does not have the o2 hole in it you need to remove the stock one with a 1 1/4" hole saw or buy a replacement weldin from K&N, I could not find them anywhere else (did the same job on my bros 5.0 mustang)

well sensor is dead so this wont hurt it...

Heat the sensor up and the area that it sticks into really hot... but not red hot... hot enough to make ur spit sizzle
while its hot squirt some kroil penatrating lubricant on it. I dont mean a small amount i mean a big health dose...

what ur trying to do is cool the metal with the kroil and since the metal is cooling its sucking in the kroil forcefully

Dont forget to add anti-seize for next time!!!

Spray lots of wd40 or whatever you have on the o2 sensor while the engine is cold, then start up the truck and let it warm up. Once the truck is warm turn it off and remove the o2 sensor while warm.Should come out for you then. The method Just Looking posted works well to.

Yes it does burn off once the motor is hot, that is why you spray it on when the motor is cold and it does a great job of getting into the rusted areas while the motor is warming up so you can losen whatever your tring to get out. This method works well for me.

WD-40 (Water Displacement 40) is not a penetrating oil, it's a water displacement compound. Use a real penetrating oil like Liquid Wrench.

It works best if you warm the engine up for a few minutes, and before the manifold really gets hot, spray the penetrating oil on it so it will cool down with it in place. Then warm it up again a little, and as it's cooling down, try to unscrew it. Worked for everyone I know who's had to do it.
