Subject: 97 Dakota fuel problem? IP: Logged
Message: my freind has a 97 Dakota with the 3.9 in it its an auto. Great little truck. Its got like 135k on it. The truck will start, but only when you give it gas. If you dont give it gas it wont run, it has a half of tank of gas in it. Im guess either a clogged fuel filter? or maybe something to do with the fuel pump? I havent got to look at it exactly. Im just guessing it a fuel problem? or maybe a sensor of some sort? i dunno, any ideas guys?? thanks in advance.....later.

Message: IAC idle air control back of throttle body
remove clean or replace
2 #20 or #25 torx screws
clean with carb cleaner and the seat on body and
see if it helps, when you go to remove it look
down the top of the body the valve should be back
away from the seat, off the seat alowing air to
flow through for start and idle speed

Message: it turns out it was the little big filter thing on the valve cover. We had put a new one on there, b/c the old one was all sludgy on the inside, so we figured "hey, time for a new one" we put the new one on, and the first day it was fine then the next day, it was just crappy. So we put the old one back on, luckily we had kept it, and it runs fine now. Ever had anything like this happen to anyone?
