Subject: Shift kit or shift cure? IP: Logged
Message: Howdy again! 92 Dakota Sport, 3.9L, Automatic 42RH tranny, 133K miles and running like a champ. I am taking a vacation soon and think I've decided to try and fix my shifting problems between 2nd and 3rd when starting out cold once and for all, but I need some opinions. I have done TONS of research here and I'm trying to decided whether I want to put in a Transgo shift kit, or do the shift cure I've been reading about, though I will have to hunt for the complete info about it. I've also read that the shift kit could create too much pressure in the tranny and make it go out. Is this correct? Will the shift kit even cure my cold shifting problems? Also, when I first got the truck and found the problem with shifting between 2 and 3, I didn't know what I was doing and had some Lucas tranny treatment put in. Will this hurt the shift kit? Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

Message: Use chrysler ATF+4 or Amsoil synthetic ONLY no
treatment crap,
No the transgo kit will not create to much presure
and harm the trans.
Front band 2 turns
rear band 3 3/4
Just mark the adjuster bolts and tighten snug with
a short wrench and back of the amount of turns,
see where they are first by marking the bolt and
turning in untill snug, or use torque wrench at
72 inch pounds 6 foot pounds than back off, in 30
years of working on these trans I have never used
a torque wrench to adjust any bands its not needed
snug botomed out 0 travel left than back off
Transgo kit can be set up in 3 diff stages as we
do them in the shop
Stage 1
towing heavy street and 4X4, nice firm but
not harsh shifts
Do all valve body work and turn the presure up
2 1/2 turns
Stage 2 all the same but drill the holes in the
seporater plate larger, tire chirping fast shifts
excellent for 2 wheel drive people with heavy
right foot
Stage 3
Install the shift comand and all the servo parts
which is a spacer on front servo firms 2-3 shift
rear servo install spacer and spring and you can
now take the presure up 4 to 5 turns
Front band 1 3/4
Rear band 3 1/2
(RE be sure to install resistor or you will get
trans presure trouble codes)
Now you can law a foot or 2 of rubber down when
shifting, and shift the trans totaly manualy
having the ability to select any gear at any
speed or rpm
A faster firmer shift has less slipage and heat
build up and heat is what kills transmissions

Message: 1 thing I forgot to add on the stage 3 setup
Lockup hopup
If you do this you will need to replace the
housing rings front of trans that come with the
kit it will firm lockup just like all other gears
and learch the truck foward when it enguages
