Subject: No Electrical & Clicking Sound IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota v6, 47000 miles. It has the original stock battery (4 years old).
I turned the ignition. No electrical (no instrument panel lights, no cabin lights, no door locks power, no clock/radio display) Nothing. There's a loud clicking sound coming from behind the glove compartment.
I was able to jump start my truck. At which time the gauge light stayed on and the voltage meter read max to the right. I drove a short distance back to home base.
I can not re-start engine. It is back to square one, no electrical with clicking. The clicking even starts when I open the door to get in. After a few minutes, the clicking stops and the cabin light comes on and even the door locks work for a while. But no instrument panel lights or radio/clock display.
I tested the battery with a voltmeter. From reading other posts, I understand this may not mean much. I checked battery cables and terminals for corrosion. I cleaned terminals. Still same results.
I think I will replace the battery before taking truck into shop. Any other suggestions before I take my truck to shop?
Thanks in advance.

Message: Many batteries have such small connectors between cell that they will fail suddently at a start up. A new battery should help. Watch your volt meter when it starts the first time. Should go to about 14volts. If it dosen't help let us know. Good luck.

Message: If you can get it to an Autozone - they'll check it for free. I don't know where you live, but here in Arizona a battery rarely lasts longer than 3-4 years because of the heat. My Autozone Duralite needs to be changed every three years - thank God for the warrantly.

Message: Thanks for your replies!!!
New battery worked! Everything back to normal. I thought it was the battery but that clicking sound made me nervous. I still do not know what that was. People at a Dodge service could not tell me either. Maybe the computer was crying for power.
