Subject: Which way should I go? IP: Logged
Message: I have 1998 4x2 Automatic V6 Dakota coming to me soon and I'm having trouble deciding how I should build it up. I'm not going to lower it (here in Texas, that's a sin) and it's not an off-roader either, so lifting more than 3" wouldn't make sense. I'd like to increase acceleration so it would be respectable at lights, but nothing too drastic as it will be a street driver. I seem to be inheriting the bottom of the Dakota barrel. What should I do with it?

Message: Larry,
Looks like you've done quite a bit to your dakota. Where did you start?

Message: Dodgefool-I think Larry started with the engine, he has been running his own version of a stroker engine that puts out more hp than a stock 360.
A good starting point would be a cold air intake, after market throttlebody. It depends on what you want to do to your truck and how much money you want to spend. There is alot you can do to increase hp and keep it so street driveable.
I have a 97 dak I use as a daily driver and I have followed many of Larry's suggestions. I have the following on truck: cold air intake, F&B throttle body, fuel sync readjusted to appr. +3, MSD-6a, 8.5 Super-Conductor Wires, MSD Blaster Coil,Borg-Warner brass cap and rotor, Autolite ap-3923 gapped out to .055 and indexed, 1.7 Crower Roller Rockers, intake manifold port matched to the heads and throttle-body opening opened up to 50mm, JBA headers, flowmaster 70 series muffler, Black Magic electric fan, crankshaft underdrive pulley, Jet Chip and other mods to come in the future.

Message: where did you get the 12 volts for your relay switch? I used the drl fuse in the power block nest to the battery. It is not switched but it seems to work ok but I had rather have a switched source but did not want to create any leaks in the firewall.
It looks like we have most of the same mods.
Maybe anothermark can come change the glow plugs in my kubota tractor it would have the same effect in solving his problem. You have to wonder where AZ got such a dunce.
