Message: moparman, You must be form the midwest, I havent heard that term-"dead as a door nail" used for ages. Another thing to consider on the Daks, it seems that the Dodges lean pretty heavyily on the O2 sensor for performance, try changing your O2 sensor if you havent done so. THe O2 sensor chould be changed every 60,000 miles. I kave personally had 3 Dodge minivans, 4 Dakotas, 2 Chryslers, this O2 sensor is an issue with every Chrysler product out there, I know that the O2 is a problem with Ford and Chevy, the Dodges really stumble when they go bad. They will cause a serious performance loss and decrease gas mileage. IF they go bad, and start reading lean the PCM will attempt to compensate and put more fuel into the engine, if this happens long enough it can also ruin the catalytic convertor. Good Luck and report back when you have resolved your problem. Your experience and what you did to resolve it can be a valuable resource to someone else, thats the beauty of a forum like this.
