Message: Why is it when my V6 is cold it runs strong, but when is warms up, it has less. It only has 70000 on it. It has a chip and cold air intake and split fire plugs.
Its four wheel drive and gets high 14 low 15 miles per gallon.

Message: Im willing to bet it the CAI. Ive noticed the same thing on my 01 every now and again. It seems to be more exagerated (sp?) when it it realy hot and humid out. (im in coastal MA). My opinion is that at cold start the engine temp is low and thus not throwing off a lot of heat. As the engine warms up that engine compartment gets pretty damn warm and sitting right there is your intake, no? You are in effect sucking in air that is probably 50 to 80 degrees warmer than outside thus effecting all systems related to the air intake temp. Try throwing you stock box back on one weekend (if you still have it) and see if anything changes.

Message: the truck is a 1999 dakota, i do have the stock air intake and will attempt putting it back on. i do live in mass and don't really notice a difference from season to season.
i would be happy with the responce if i could duplicate the power when it is hot as it is cold.

Message: I might be wrong here but isn't relocating the iat sensor done to give it more of that "cold engine feel". Ive done the swap and i have personally noticed a difference.

Message: what does the iat sensor do, will it run too rich / or any other changes need to be made when altered?
when this thing is cold, it really has the power needed to move out.
thanks for the remarks.

Message: The iat sensor screws in to your intake manifold and should be brass with a grey connector located on left hand side facing engine. Anyways it reads the air temperature inside your intake and allows the computer to make adjustments to your air/fuel ratio. The problem with it being in the intake is that the intake becomes hot and the sensor reads hot air therefore making your mixture more lean and thus costing some performance. Relocating it to a place where it can sense cooler air (i.e. your intake tube) will make the ratio a little richer. I have read that some daks dont take well to it and that some do. It may cost you some gas mileage but it shouldnt be much. Well hope I got all that right. Later.
