Subject: Dak cuts out while running IP: Logged
Message: I have a 90 3.9l. Here lately it has been hard to start every once in a while. It will turn over but it will take its time starting. Then about a minute down the road the engine will cut out for up to 5 seconds or so. Electrical power stays on but nothing from the engine. Then it all comes back. It will do this a couple of times the first few minutes it is running then it will run fine. It seems to be getting worse. Someone please help.

Message: How many miles on your Dak? IT could lack of spark or fuel. How long has it been since spark plugs, plug wires, distribtor cap and rotor have been changed? A good tune may be in order. The ignition coil could be cutting out if it's defective. The next thing to check would be the fuel system, how long has it been since the fuel filter has been changed. By the way, you can use the search function to aid you in your troubleshooting. Diane's 88 dak had simliar problems earlier this year you could check out here posts. Good Luck I hope you can resolve your problem.

Message: The truck has 125k miles. The plugs, rotor, and distributor cap were changed around a year and a half ago. I have some new plug wires I will put on it. I also forgot to mention that I am getting an 11 code, which my manual says is "No distributor signal". I did search the forums earlier and read something about a pick up coil in the distributor. Is this the same as the Hall Effect pick-up mentioned in my manual? And if so could that be the problem?

Message: That is defintely a possible cause. With the high mileage, it would be a good idea to change it.

Message: WHOA !
How are you getting the code ? key on-off-on-off-on ? code 11 is perfectly sensible in this case.
Next -=- do you have full fuel injection ?
injector for each cylinder ? or just throttle body
injection ?
Every cyl. injection ( dist ) pickup is for fuel
injection timing - NOT spark .
Spark timing uses Crank Pos Sensor - passenger side top of bell housing [ near dist. ]
Your real problem may be Auto Shutdown Relay in
fuse box underhood or wiring to it , including
wiring harness from there back to firewall.
Look for a splice of 3 or 4 wires , usually this is bad - , redo with good quality ' joiner '
or solder and tape
