Subject: TB+dremel tool ?? IP: Logged
Message: 95 dak here. How long would it take me to do the TB procedure myself using a dremel tool? Also, what size/type bits do I need? How many will I go through? Thanks.

Message: I'm just about to do this, too, as soon as I no longer have to drive to work (can take the light rail).
Dremel 77 piece is on sale at Osh near me for like $60.
The pictures aren't there, but here's a good step by step guide. Just plug in port polish on Google.

Message: maybe I'm an idiot, but I wasn't talking about the intake mod, I was talking about the TB mod. There IS a difference yes? You can do one and not the other yes?
Look here, this is what I'm talking about:

How long to do this job using a hack-saw+ dremel tool as the article suggests?

Message: you can do either or both. the TB, job length depends how good you are with a dremel IMO. i did mine in a couple of evenings, prolly a total of 8 hrs. took my time, disassembled the TB completely. haven't done the manifold.

Message: mine took about an hour of dremel-ing, followed by a few hours of labour intesive polishing with various grades of emery cloth and copious amounts of water. The finish was a mirror-like finish all the way down the barrels of the TB. Be careful not to take too much off around the torque step, or your idle will be really high.
A good vise is helpfull too, but use some protection on the clamps so you dont scratch the unit.
oh, yes, make sure you wear eye protection. The aluminum is shot all over the place from the dremel tool and inevitably will find its way into your eyes.
