I likes, I likes......I stick with my 17's though, I cringe everytime I do a burnout, I think of the dollars floating away....I figure for every 1/32nd of an inch of rubber I spend about 10 dollars, LOL
I imagine with 20's it would be more like 30 dollars a 32nd....LOL!!!

This isnt a flame but... you guys sure you dont think 20 inches, let alone 24 inches, is getting alittle carried away? I mean before long you guys ll be running on 18 wheeler tires :P. Maybe it works for you guys that haul stuff but performance wise Its hard to see the use... Unless its all just for looks. At that point I still love my 17's :)

Actually you can setup the 20"s for a 4wd trucks and have them look really cool!

a 295/45/20 or a 265/50/20 gets you to 30 inches and you can even go up to 31 or 32 on the 20"s and make one heck of a good looking 4x4

The 20"s are just a performance/looks accessory.. I was just tired of haveing such small rims and such large wheel gap so I had these made

Big59er, the 20s with the right tire will actually give you better performance. If you have 17s I assume it's a R/T. Those stock RSAs are pure junk. I'm currently running 19" wheels with Dunlop SP9000 tires. The difference in ride quality and performance over the stock stuff is quite dramatic.

Still have the wheels, but have a couple of people asking about them. Taking my time because my 20s are still 5+ weeks out and they're costing me a mint

The Acaris are painted by the manufacturer. It's simply a charcoal powder coat. Any good powder coating shop could do it for you. Just comes down to who has the best price.

The thing iv always been skeptical about is the fact everytime I see somebody with rims any larger than 20" is that there is only about an inch or 2 of rubber around the rim. So maybe it improves the ride as far cruising and showing off your vehicle is concerned and maybe gives you an advantage in the slolem... but when ya hit that quarter I would think an individual would have peice of mind knowing that there is a decent ammount of rubber to zoom down that strip on. :^\
I like the 20's they have for these trucks, looks gorgous I admit but not for the 1/4.

Yes you were right to assume I have an R/T.

As for the 1/4 mile concerns, keep in mind that most tires in the 20 inch size are going to be high speed rated tires. From a safety standpoint they are probably better than your stock stuff if you're concerned about a tire potentially coming apart at speed.

Tires currently on my truck have ~4 inch sidewalls. They feel better than the stock Goodyears which have ~5.5 inches of sidewall due to the different contruction and compounds used. Goodyear, quite frankly, has fallen behind the times when it comes to bleeding edge passenger tires.

I dont care for Goodyear tires as far as thats concerned so I can do nothing but agree with you on that account.

Maybe all tires that fit on the 20 inch rims are high performance rated, but the thing is though they're also made for lighter sports cars. I can tell you first hand every year during USGP time here in Indianapolis they have a Ferrari car show downtown... Most of those Ferrari's have 20" rims on them (probably because most of them come stock) And you can tell how some of their rims are bent a tad bit from pretty much the stress that is put on them from driving around on everyday, pothole, chucked out streets. My point is if its still raging havoc on those rims in a car that light you can only imagine what its going to do in a much larger heavier vehicle... let alone a truck. Most of the guys I know that pull anything in or under 12 seconds are running a set a nitto's, or the faster guys, running a set of slicks on regular 15-17 inch rims. I'd give it to ya, you might woo the judges at a car show and pull in a nice place there, but thats about the extent of it.

Now that I think of it. Around here they're are a bunch of places that refuse to put larger rims like that on cars just because they are afraid if anything happens they could be held liable, because if the guy smashes one of his rims when he hits a chuck hole (because he is practically driving on rim when you get to wheel sizes that large)then he can say it was because they F'ed them up to begin with. The reality is its more of a safety issue when it comes to running rims any larger than 20 inches.

I BS you not on that as far as those tire shops go. Maybe they are over reacting but thats just what I'v heard.

I think you're visualization of the sidewall heights is skewing your concern. I've run tires with less than ~4" sidewall height for years on my Dakota and never bent a wheel on my daily driver, potholes and all. Keep in mind you're also looking at a fairly stout cast wheel. This isn't some wimpy aftermarket deal.

Load ratings of the tires is not an issues, since any performance tires are going to have similar ratings for a given size. I can easily get a 20" tire that has better than 1500 lb. load rating and the requirement for a Dak CC is only 1275. Also, nobody out there is running Nittos to the tune of flat or sub 12 sec. 1/4 miles in a truck. You'd never get them to hook.

If you've got tire shops that won't deal with 20s, I'm afraid they won't be in business long. The trend is bigger, not smaller and 20s is much more common today than a few years ago. Hey, I've got tire shops here that want you to sign off for any potential damage they might do to ANY alloy wheel during the mounting of new tires. Those shops you want to avoid. If they do this stuff all day long and are looking for an out over alloy wheels(think of how many factory alloys are out there), then they simply don't deserve your business.

Not trying to beat you up on this, just making sure we're not scaring people with hype or third party stuff. 20s are not for everyone, but they are not the problematic tire/wheel setup they used to be. For those buying them, simply make sure you're getting a lifetime warranty wheel. The structural integrity of the better brands of wheels today is such that bent wheels, unless an extreme event, are a thing of the past.

Well Iv just always heard that when you get deeper into it most performance vehicles that start touching that low (around or below 12's) run on 15's with lots of rubber because the tires have to flex to hook up with the asphault when you launch that is why you want alot of rubber to work with. There is no rubber there to work with on rims that large. 20's may be a growing trend... But for those who are into the cosmetic department. And yes, you can get nitto's to scratch into the 12's even on a truck. Iv not only seen it done with R/T's that break into the 12's with Nitto's I'v seen it done with 11 second Syclones as well.

If you're drag racing, you buy 15" or 16" wheels and run slicks. End of story. If you're building a street racing "sleeper", you build it differently and perhaps run cheater slicks.

Not saying that 20s are appropriate for that purpose. I thought we were talking ride quality and load ratings. _NO_ tire fits the bill for all applications. In the case of 20s for cosmetics, it's merely personal preference. I happen to like the look. It's not for everyone. I just don't want to see someone discount them for the wrong reasons.
