In most States the all clears in the rear are Illegal as heck, unless they have the red inside them then they are legal, the front corners all clears are legal just use the amber bulbs..

Completely clear tail lights are illegal anywhere in the country right now, DOT dropped their support for them. Although local/state laws are worded so that it sounds like you could use them, if a cop wanted to be nasty enough they could bust you every time.
PS - I think that e-bay auction is funny, they retail for $120 but the bid was over $175 last I looked.

i've got all clears and i baught them off of e-bay too....for 200$. ya i know they were only worth 100, but i just had to have them. It's worth the work, and it turns lots of heads. I get pulled over about twice a month and all the cops ever tell me is
"well you know you can't have those, but i'll go w/ a warning this time"
They tell me every time, and i've even had the same cops twice. And i have also pissed them off enough to the point where they could have been jerks about it. But they never are.
I'm startin' to wonder if they are really allowed, otherwise why have i never been ticketed?

Ive been ticketed twice for mine. First time i took it to the police station and showed them that i "changed" them back and got the ticket thrown away. Put them on again. Second ticket i got was a vehicle inspection, so i had to take them off. This time ive put a 1/2" wide strip of red reflector tape along the bottom of the brake lense, which hopefully will let me get away with it a lot more.

that red reflector tape is a good idea,the other reason that cops mess with you about them is if you get cheep bulbs they fade and are hard to see. they make the LED bulbs now, there about $20 bucks a pop, but hey its worth it,I dont think they ever burn out.

Well i have only been using the leds for about 9 months. But it is just on one side so i'm starting to think that is a different problem. The other one is fine, and so are the ones up front. Man i don't know, i can put this stuff in easy, but when it comes to fixin' em count me out cause i'm clueless.

If you notice on b2200 clear taillamps(other ones might too, just dakotas dont), they have the red reflector built in right at the bottom, thats why i thought if i did it, it would seem more legal. It doesnt even look bad, i havent taken any pics of them yet though, so i cant post how it looks, i will one day. As for LEDs, i bought them as well, the work great at night, during the day though, they are too direct at dont illuminate the whole casing. so i just have the bulbs going red, it looks kinda sweet though, my friend was driving behind and says it looks like some red eyes light up everytime i touch the brakes. makes it look mean, hahaha. They havent faded yet, but one wasnt as red as the other one when i bought them, it was kinda an orangey red instead. but whatever, only i notice it cause its my truck, no one cares.

ive had clear tail lights on my car for almost 2 years and i have never gotten pulled over. i hear they are illegal but cops never stop me. to keep from having to replace the red bulb covers constantly, just go to a racing car shop like jotech and buy some red lights to fit in the car.

i have totally clear tails on my 97 dakota and been pulled over once. just had to change them for the court and thats it. does anybody have a problem between the APC clears and the fender? a few daks around here all have a noticable gap . does anybody know how to fix this? i also have the LED bulbs that are clear and turn red when pressing the brake, they cost me $10 at murrays.

I just made a custom led strip for a center light for my old car that didnt come with it stock. I bought a pack of 50 of the brightest leds for $13. i only used 14 so it came out to like $5 for my custom job. all LEDS are rated as 100,000 or 10 years. If they seem overly bright or heat up, they may only last a year and start dimming then. Under right conditions, they last 10 years and start dimming afterward. Red leds are supposed to get 2.2V each and use only 25ma you might kill them if you use 50ma per led
i was thinking about putting clear cover over my lights to unblock the light from LEDS i might put in for the side lights.

on the subject of clear tail lights i cant find any place that sells the type of tail light lenses that i think APC used to make they were just like the stock tal lenses but clear insted of red. does any body know who makes them and where i can find them?? PS: i own a 1995 ford f150 with american eagle vulcan cruzer wheels and i just turned 16 on march 16th

DOT states that you must have red color in the taillights to the side and the rear so that people can identify th front vs the rear of your vehicle for say silver or black vehicles... Mine is red so I have a problem anyway :) I have all clear but they have a red circle facing to the rear and the side just for the DOT approval. On top of that they are LED so the lights themselves are clear when off. just make sure it has the required reflectors and a DOT number, if anyone argues you just show them the DOT approval number and the red reflectors, they should know the applicable law, if you still get in trouble after that, get a lawyer and sue the F!@# out of the city you live in. DOT regs regarding this are federal and federal ALWAYS trumps local laws.

trump local laws. State, County and local
governments can ALWAYS make laws stricter.
However, federal Criminal Procedural Laws do
always trump local CPL. (the laws that govern
what goes on in the court rooms). Look at Cali,
they got stricter laws on everything (emissions,
tint, noise ordinances, etc.). Just want to let
you guys so know so nobody goes and fights a
losing battle. Take care, guys.
